Zeerust collision leaves five dead

Johannesburg - Five men were killed in a head-on collision on Sunday near Zeerust, the North West Public Safety Department said.

Spokesperson Lesolang Simon Mmope said two cars travelling in opposite directions collided head-on at around 6pm.

“According to an eyewitness, five men travelling in a Toyota Corolla, coming from Zeerust, died on the scene while other passengers travelling in a Nissan Sedan escaped with serious injuries.”

He said the injured people were taken to nearby hospitals for further medical treatment.

“Police suspect that fatigue and speed may have been the cause of the accident,” Mmope said. - Sapa
