One man was killed, while an ANC councillor was wounded when gunmen stormed a meeting and opened fire.

Fordsburg, Gauteng - Three men were arrested in Fordsburg on Monday afternoon after being found with illegal firearms and ammunition, Johannesburg metro police said.

They were arrested during a metro police stop and check operation along Main Reef Road.

Their parked cars, a BMW and Volkswagen Polo, were searched and police found two firearms and ammunition, Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said.

The officers suspected the men, aged 28, 30 and 38, were about to commit a crime in China Mall, said Minnaar.

The trio were due to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court soon on charges of possession of illegal firearms and ammunition. - Sapa
