Johannesburg - Chippa United have sacked their second coach of the season, just eight games into the top-flight league campaign, with Roger Sikhakhane getting the chop on Monday.
Sikhakhane had replaced former coach Manqoba Mngqithi in August just two games into the season.
“It was decided amicably that the team is not performing well and all members including the former coach agreed that the team is not responding to his charges,” the club said in a statement.
“He (Sikhakhane) also felt that for the progress and way forward of the team it is proper for the management to seek another person who can come up with fresh ideas and probably a new approach.”
The club said former assistant coach Farouk Abrahams would take over in a caretaker role, assisted by Samkelo Jam-Jam, until a mentor with “PSL experience” could be found.
Chippa, promoted to the Premiership this season, are lying second from bottom in the table, ahead of AmaZulu on goal difference, with only one win from eight league matches.
They were also eliminated in the first round of the Telkom Knockout competition. - Sapa
