Wolmaransstad - A traditional healer, a pastor's son and another man accused of stealing a head from a grave in Makwassie were denied bail by the Wolmaransstad Magistrate's Court on Monday, North West police said.

Brigadier Thulani Ngubane said they would bring a bail application next Monday.

“They were arrested on Friday after a tip-off led to the discovery of a head in a bucket wrapped in plastic on the roof of the traditional healer's house,” said Ngubane.

He said the head belonged to a body discovered at Lobaleng township graveyard by municipal workers last Monday.

Relatives of Ezekiel Motloung, who was buried on June 30, told the Sowetan the three men arrested were well-known to the family and had helped at Motloung's funeral.

The newspaper reported that two days after he was buried, the family was informed that his grave had been tampered with. When they arrived with the police, they found Motloung's head had been cut off.

At the time, Ngubane said the body was still in the coffin, but that the head was missing. - Sapa
