Pietermaritzburg - A man was arrested for raping a woman in Pietermaritzburg on Thursday, KwaZulu-Natal police said.
“The man allegedly attacked, raped and robbed a 21-year-old woman while she was walking home in the Pietermaritzburg CBD,” Colonel Vincent Mdunge said.
The woman was confronted after visiting a friend in the early hours of Thursday morning.
“The man picked up a beer bottle and struck her face. He then dragged her along the pavement and forced her to the ground and raped her,” said Mdunge. He also stole her cellphone.
A security guard who was nearby heard the woman scream, went to investigate, chased the man, caught him and handed him over to the police.
The man was expected to appear soon in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate's Court on charges of rape and robbery. - Sapa
