Cape Town - A Chinese fishing master was fined R2500 after being caught with 72 shark fins at the Cape Town International Airport on Tuesday, Western Cape police said.
Captain Frederick van Wyk said the man, 52, was on his way to China via Johannesburg when police found the shark fins in his luggage.
They had an estimated street value of R120 000.
The man was fined and the fins were handed over to marine and coastal management officials, said Van Wyk.
The fins are mostly used in soup and traditional Eastern medicine. - Sapa
