KwaZulu-Natal - Claims that Pomeroy police were working in cahoots with cattle thieves will be investigated, community leaders have been assured.
This emerged after KZN Community Safety MEC Willies Mchunu held talks with traditional leaders, area councillors and members of a community-based anti-stock theft organisation, Isikebhe.
Department spokesman Kwanele Ncalane said Mchunu planned to visit Mahlaba, where seven men were killed in a shooting. The men, from Pomeroy near Msinga, were members of Isikebhe.
Isikebhe chairman Gibson Mbatha said there was a concern that Pomeroy police did not share the organisation’s desire to tackle cattle theft.
“The MEC gave us some phone numbers of other police we can phone when we get leads about stolen cattle so that when we go to look for the cattle they can come with us,” Mbatha said. - Daily News
