Calm after Greytown march

Comment on this story

The KwaZulu-Natal town of Greytown was quiet on Thursday afternoon after more than 100 people staged an illegal march in the morning, police said.

“The road has now been cleared and the situation is back to normal,” Captain Thulani Zwane said.

About 132 people, including juveniles, were arrested for public violence between Muden and Greytown on the R74 main road at 2am.

The march was apparently prompted by grievances over service delivery in the area. The protesters blockaded the road with tyres, rocks, and debris.

“There were no reports of violence, looting or damage to property,” Zwane said. - Sapa
