Johannesburg - There will be no end to the political killings in KwaZulu-Natal unless assassins and contract killers are dealt with, the African National Congress in the province said on Tuesday.
“The ANC urges all political parties to avoid usage of the unfortunate past of politically related violence to justify the current killings,” provincial secretary Sihle Zikalala said in a statement.
“We condemn all the politically related deaths and call on our people to volunteer information that will help the law enforcement agencies.”
Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa assigned a team of national police officers to work with police in KwaZulu-Natal investigating political killings, said Zikalala.
Political party leaders in KwaZulu-Natal met Mthethwa on Tuesday to discuss ways of ending political murders in the province.
“The ANC is happy that the minister has responded quickly to our call,” said Zikalala.
“We call on all political parties to assist the police by inculcating the culture of political tolerance amongst their members.”
He said the meeting also dealt with issues of violence in the taxi industry and the faction fights which had taken place in the province. - Sapa
