The ANCYL was making white people the enemy, Afriforum Youth said on Thursday following the league's criticism of former JSE CEO Russell Loubser.

“The ANCYL is defending their own extremism by making white people the enemy, whilst poverty is supposed to be the enemy,” chairman Charl Oberholzer said in a statement.

“The ANCYL is constantly busy with wayward arguments about the economy, while hatred, racism and intimidation are the only methods that the ANCYL can use.”

Loubser on Wednesday asked why no leaders were guiding African National Congress Youth League members.

“Today's ANC Youth League is not the ANC Youth League of Nelson Mandela, Walter Sisulu, Govan Mbeki, Oliver Tambo and the like,” he told students at the University of the Witwatersrand, in Johannesburg.

“The ANC Youth League... today is a disgrace and embarrassment.”

It was “a destroyer of confidence”.

“You won't hear one idea from the ANC Youth League on how to create wealth, value, but you will hear constantly how to redistribute wealth,” he said.

The ANCYL replied by remarking that: “Mr Loubser is an uninformed and reckless loudhailer of the interests of white monopoly capital.

“He has... spoken of things he knows nothing of and it astounds the mind that in 2012 the ANCYL would be called upon to account for its views by previously and still advantaged boys of white privilege.”

It found Loubser's comment that the call for nationalisation was “brainless talk” an insult.

Oberholzer said Afriforum Youth called on the ANC leadership to step in if they attached any value to South Africa's political stability and did not want to be seen as an embarrassment.

“The conduct and utterances of the ANCYL indicate to the world that the ANC is already radicalised to such an extent that mutual respect has become non-existent.”

Suspended ANCYL spokesman Floyd Shivambu said Loubser had taken part in “intellectual hooliganism”.

“This representative of white monopoly capital, a racist and intellectual dwarf, chose to throw insults on the leadership of the ANC Youth League without substantially responding to (its) profound and proficient policy positions,” Shivambu said in a statement. - Sapa
