Alleged poacher shot dead

Kruger National Park - A suspected rhino poacher was shot dead and another seriously wounded in the Kruger National Park, SanParks said on Monday.

“Park rangers made contact with three armed, suspected rhino poachers at the Crocodile Bridge section of the park on Saturday evening and a shoot-out ensued,” spokesman Ike Phaahla said.

“One man was fatally wounded, another sustained gunshot wounds, while the third person managed to escape.”

A .375 hunting rifle and ammunition were collected at the scene.

The injured man was under police guard at a nearby hospital as investigations continued. - Sapa
